Webinar “Under the Pressure of Tyranny and War: New Strategies of Russian Civil Society for Digital Security and Countering Censorship”
On 23 June 2023, IMPETUS organized a webinar on “Under the Pressure of Tyranny and War: New Strategies of Russian Civil Society for Digital Security and Countering Censorship” with Vladislav Ivanets, media researcher and journalist. The key moderator was Kristina Atovska, a journalist who was the first war reporter from North Macedonia reporting directly from Ukraine from the beginning of the war.
The objective of the event was to address the digital rights challenges in Russia and the impact of the war on exercising different rights and CSOs work. It addressed the right to information, freedom of information, right to privacy, LGBT community challenges, fake news, propaganda, etc.
The key takeaways are that this topic intrigued many participants and specifically from the CSOs to listen, but not to take any questions. North Macedonia is under huge propaganda from the impact of the Ukraine – Russia war and the nearest happenings, and there is no great information about the ongoing and challenges of CSOs in Russia. This was an authentic opportunity for such issues to be addressed.
